Lake Mteri, in the Hippo Valley Estates of Zimbabwe boasts some of the largest Florida strain Bass in Africa. Field and Stream magazine reported rumors of 24 pound bass floating in the Hippo Valley region. This article pondered the whereabouts of the next WORLD RECORD BASS. Specimens of 10 pound and up are nothing unusual at this venue. The lake is inhabited by all the Bream species as well as Catfish.

The wildlife and bird life is spectacular. Game drives can be arranged with the Mteri Wildlife Sanctuary. Guest lodges are built with stone and thatch architecture and are set among the trees. Each twin bedded room has an adjoining dressing room, en-suite bathroom, separate toilet and a delightful open air shower. All modern comforts are provided - ceiling fans, mosquito nets, electricity, hot water etc. The rooms have insect proof windows and a deep shady verandah offering view over the lake. The lake is approximately 200 miles from the South African border.
